About Dean

Dean Schmidt graduated from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1989. He then worked as a litigation associate at Hassard, Bonnington, Rogers & Huber in San Francisco, representing commercial defendants in medical malpractice, coverage, insurance bad faith, and commercial litigation cases. For several years, he was associated with the Oakland firm of Foster & Associates, representing Fortune 500 companies and public agencies in employment and labor matters.

Mr. Schmidt has successfully represented individuals and small businesses in a variety of complex litigation matters including:
clergy sexual abuse, mold exposure, construction defect, mortgage fraud, interstate moving, trade secret violations, constructive eviction providing treble damages, and injury cases involving brain injury and multiple fractures resulting from third-story fall.

Mr. Schmidt’s strengths as a lawyer include:

  • Sophisticated analysis of the law and facts of a case, resulting in sound advice and legal strategy

Formerly, Mr. Schmidt taught legal research and writing as adjunct faculty at Hastings College of the Law. He is also a recipient of the State Bar of California Wiley W. Manuel Certificate for Pro Bono Services. As a student at Hastings, Mr. Schmidt won a Best Brief Award in the David E. Snodgrass Moot Court competition, was assistant editor of the Constitutional Law Quarterly, Dean’s Discussion Group Leader (Constitutional Law) and member of the Hastings Traynor Moot Court team.
